Stardust

Lying in bed on a serene Sunday evening,

The window is open, the shutters half-way up.

A brilliant setting sunlight is streaming

A golden ray into my room.

The shaft of light is lying on my bed,

It’s warmth cosying me, while I lie under the covers.

Shadowy figures in the creased curtains,

Wiggle and glide together, like lovers.

Everything is quiet, and peace abounds.

I can hear downstairs, so faintly,

Serenading, piano sounds

That drift up sleepily in the languid air.

Beyond the window the sunlight has set aglow

To a million tiny speckles of life-

Microscopic flies. Glorious life on show

In an awesome synchronized dance.

The dust particles are illuminated too,

Like the debris from the big bang that they are.

They are floating aimlessly around the room-

The cosmos greeting me from a metre away.

This vision, usually invisible to the eye,

Reminds me I am the leftovers of a star.

The dust, the shadows, the flies,

All of us. Are what we are- The universe.
